WHAT
IS
The purpose of the
Ř
assist lay leaders in UUA communities
Ř
prepare people for new leadership roles
Ř
enhance overall leadership capabilities
Ř
expand and deepen our religious faith
The program intends to
integrate the needs of the individual with the tasks and functions of our
religious communities. Opportunities for growth are presented through lectures,
group activities, and individual discussions. Goals are for participants to:
Ř
broaden their knowledge of heritage, and
deepen their appreciation for the religion and values of our UU movement
identify personal values through open
discussion, and deepen their spiritual life by designing and presenting
rituals, celebrations, and worship services
Ř
learn a variety of leadership styles, and
develop a leadership philosophy that will balance concern for getting the job
done with concern for the people doing the work
The UUA Covenant sets forth our mutual
promise and best hope for our faith. This is no easy task. As we strive to
fulfill the Principles and Purposes of our living tradition in each of
our communities, there is great and continuing need for leaders who undertake
the caring responsibility for programs and activities, which will continue to
make our membership in the UUA so very worthwhile.

HOW
ARE GROWTH & LEADERSHIP INTERWOVEN?
Real growth cannot be
accomplished without “healthy teams of dynamic leaders”. Investing in lay
leadership development and training is vital to any congregation’s growth plan.
Our program intentionally integrates the needs of the individual with the tasks
and functions of our religious communities.
Why
does it work?
1.
2.
LS is experiential. You have the
opportunity to practice the skills taught in a supportive environment and
intentional UU community.
3.
LS provides comprehensive Unitarian Universalist history, identity
and values and OUR place in cultural evolution.
4.
Enables and encourages individual spiritual growth and
development.
5.
Provides an arena for leaders from various congregations to bond,
create supportive and lasting connections and learn from each other.
HOW
DOES THE DISTRICT SUPPORT YOU?
Attention Religious
Educators! For the purposes of Renaissance recognition, attendance at UU
Leadership School is counted as one module.
Congregations are especially
encouraged to send two or more students each year to this week-long
transformational program. This is no
small investment and limited funds are available.
Please spread the news and
gather a team of leaders from your congregation! Speak with your president
regarding attendance and tuition support.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
We encourage carpooling! 1.
It is environmentally friendly; 2. It begins the process of community building;
3. It is fun! Please contact Barb Zoellin-Malm, Registrar for more information and
connection with other students coming from your area.
If you are flying in, please
let us know so that we can assist in arranging airport pick-up and home
hospitality if needed. We are here to
support you in your effort to participate in this highly valuable
experience. Please do not hesitate to
contact anyone of us for assistance.
