Women & Religion - PCD - Summer 2004 Gathering Women's Voices What a wonderful retreat we had. Sixty-three women gathered at Enchanted Hills over the weekend of March 12 - 14. We sang, laughed, cried and enjoyed each other's company. A part of Saturday evening's festivities was a play reading, written by Meg Bowman, Seneca Fall, 1848. An afternoon tea attended by 5 feisty ladies, planning the first Women's Rights Conference. They had prepared a list of demands. Here's the list of demands we felt are still needed:
We'd love to have another retreat in 2005 and have the space reserved, but need a few good women to help with the planning and coordination. The last 2 retreat committees left a legacy of guidelines and notes for future retreat planners, so some of your work has already been done. Without some leaders stepping forward however, we won't be able to gather next Spring. Please contact Geri Kennedy ( gerilou@aol.com) or Sue Guist ( sueg@allover.com) if you can help. It is good if the planning group is in the same general geographic location to make meetings more practical, so perhaps you can gather some women from your local area to help put together a wonderful experience for another 60+ women next Spring! Hi Tea with 3 Dead Ladies Many thanks to Meg Bowman for organizing this wonderful afternoon. BJ Bryan graciously opened her home and amazing garden and 40 women and a few men enjoyed an afternoon of delicious tea, crumpets, scones and strawberries. Conversations were held with Susan B. Anthony, Jane Addams and May Arkright Hutton. A surprise dead lady arrived as a guest, Frances Willard. Summer Gathering in Arcata The women of Arcata have invited us to spend Labor Day Weekend, September 3 - 6 in among the beautiful redwoods. We will carpool up on Friday, spend a great day together on Saturday. We hope to participate in the Sunday Service the following day. Some may want to return home on Sunday afternoon, otherwise, we will be welcome to spend another night resting and return home on Monday. October 16 - Meeting in Palo Alto Join us on Saturday, October 16 at the Palo Alto UU Church, 505 E. Charleston, 10:30 - 2:00. We'll continue our look at famous UU women, have a pot luck lunch and hold a business meeting. Yahoo groups There are quite a few women now on the yahoo groups list - This is a much better way for us to communicate quickly through the internet. There is not a lot of traffic, so you would only get a message every week or so - nothing that would pile up your in-box. Send a message to W_R-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. W&R Workshop at This Year's General Assembly Well Known Author of The Gender Knot and Sociologist - Allan Johnson, Ph.D. was a featured speaker at a W&R workshop at this year's General Assembly. How You Can Help We need contributions to help to fund this important event at General Assembly. Our goal for this fund-raiser is $ 2,300. However, we need all your help. Please email Pat Simon (Mass Bay District - Women and Religion) with any questions - Psimon@gis.net. Silent Walk Following the Sunday Worship at General Assembly 2004, people around the world were walking with a slow pace, in silence. Many wore white clothing.
